Stephen Muecke is a senior academic in the humanities and creative arts, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. He has extensive expertise in Indigenous Studies, Creative Writing, Cultural Theory, Literary Studies and the Environmental Humanities. He has been the recipient of numerous Australian Research Council grants, including a five-year Professorial fellowship, and served on the ARC College of Experts. He was the first Professor of Cultural Studies in Australia, in 1993, and a Fulbright Scholar and a visiting professor at the Freie Universität, Berlin and at the Université de Paris XIII. He is the author, translator or editor of 30 books and numerous articles and pieces of creative work. An Emeritus Professor at UNSW, he is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Notre Dame, Broome, where much of his research is undertaken.
